I can start a project and begin in layout view, laying out tables and cells
and then adding content to these items..... THEN-for some reason that I cannot figure out the arrow in layout view turns
into a black circle with a line through it and I cannot create cells or
tables anymore. WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY?

Welcome to Webmasterworld. Guidelines [webmasterworld.com] There is so much info here. You're not by any chance trying to draw tables in cells, in layout view. This is a no-no - don't ask me why, but you can't seem to do it, if the cell is created before the table. Drop the layout, and go into wysiwyg, and the problem goes away, then drop back into layout view for positioning. Remember, create the table first, then the cells, etc.

Clarification:i AM WORKING ON A web. i have laid out the firstpage, added content, graphics etc using "LAYOUT VIEW" and then the (2) other buttons in the objects panel, "draw layout cell" and "draw layout table" buttons. like I said when I leave the objects panel the pointer turns to a circle with a line through it and I cannot layout anything further. What could I be doing wrong? I have read and cannot quite see my problem.
