Microsoft announced last week [microsoft.com] that its Visual Studio 2005 Express editions would henceforth be free. MS started giving this software away about a year ago, but on a trial basis. It was unknown whether MS would continue the program. This is just confirmation that they will.

The Express Edition of Visual Web Developer [msdn.microsoft.com] looks like an interesting web development tool. According to the screenshots you can develop web applications in a WYSIWYG-esque interface. Has anyone played around with this tool?
