Hello digirun, Welcome to WebmasterWorld This happened to me. You should not mix the FP publishing feature with FTP ;) I ended up getting the host to delete what I didn't need. I'm not sure if you can do it yourself....but I bet every FP owner has came across this prob! If anyone has alternatives......otherwise I'd ask your host to trash the redundant folders.

I'm not sure if this will solve your problem, but there is a shareware called KISSfp that will strip FP generated sites of all their server extension dependent code and leave you with the rest that can then be uploaded via FTP safely. From what I've read, it essentially strips all of the _vti_* folders from your web...among other things. I haven't tried this, but it sounds like a good idea.

Thanks Bill, checked it out and although top software only for copying webs made exclusivley in FP to new folder ready for FTPing up to server without junk files. Great for publishing without _vti_cnf folders. But still stuck with files, as yet no response from server.

Did you set the external file mask in your ftp program to "-la"? Otherwise .files that are hidden under *nix systems will not be displayed and the directory will appear to be empty when in fact there are still hidden files present.

Fantastic, thats cracked it. Here's the how to for CuteFTP users with FP problems. Hit ctrl+L to open filters box and check the option - Enable remote filter[server applied filter]. then in the box remote filter enter -la hit OK and viola goodbye _vti_cnf folders, as they now are no longer empty and will delete. Thanks andreasfriedrich top info!

Digirunt, How do you get .htaccess show up in cuteFTP? I am supposed to have it but even though I upload it it doesn't show. Ann
