Hello Westat1. I believe your co-worker may be referring to programs such as... Microsoft FrontPage Macromedia Dreamweaver There are a host of web page software publishing packages out there. The two mentioned above seem to be the most popular. Then there is always Notepad. ;)

So it is just like an html editor, right? Why can't I use homesite?

I don't think he's necessarily talking about editors. He may also mean editor/uploader (FP is an example of this, I can't remember if Dreamweaver offers the same functionality, but I'm sure they do). One reason they're popular is because they're an all-in-one. Many experienced webmasters regularly forget that for some people, it is hard to learn new software, even if it's as "simple" as an FTP client. Of course, I think those people should stay out of my World Wide Web! ::clutches his machine defensively::

Both dreamweaver and frontpage have ftp clients, as built-in add-ons that allow you to uplaod to a host or synch remote with local. Of course you can with home site, but you would you'se an external FTP client. I use an external FTP client full stop, specially for them tiring mornings after hours in front of the computer, just a little wake up call before i transfer files, also a heck of a lot easy to handle multiple sites.
