I am trying to make an application that let mobile users take pictures with their camera-mobiles and upload it to a webserver. Additionally, I want users to be able to browse to the website on their handsets, download the picture and put it as a wallpaper on their handset.
For uploads I am considering sending MMS as email and automatically stripping the image attachment of the email to store in a directory at the server. I also will make a XHTML upload form, but there seems to be little support for this on many handsets.
For downloads it seems that having a normal link to an image file and 'clicking' it within your mobile browser, downloads the image to the phone's picture archive.
My question is: are there other options that are better (most preferably without having to use MMS gateways etc)?
What is the best way to automatically extract attachments off received emails? Is procmail and perl or php the way to go?
