PDA, Mobile and Wireless Computing

Is PDA detection necessary/advisable?
My PDA seems to handle most (nonframed) websites okay

I haven't tried yet on my mobile phone, but my Windows CE seems to handle non-framed websites okay (even many graphics). It even allows diddling with font size by the end-user, and with a bit of (perhaps annoying) scrolling to and fro, the website shows up okay. Would I be kind to clients to build in PDA detection? If so, is @media in CSS sufficient or would I be more likely to get intelligent results by putting in some client-side javascript sensing? (I could, for example, avoid display of large photos...)
