hey guys
i have this constant problem on my linux web server.

i have some heavy traffic on my site but my server is quite stable.
but my httpd stops every hour for a few minutes and then restarts automatically.

i dont know why this happens?
mine is a p4 and the server is quite robust.

do any of you guys have a script that runs itself every hour and restarts httpd automatically.

is this possible?

thanks
sohail

Set a cron job to run "apachectl restart" once per hour.

But if you ask me, that's a bad solution. Instead fix the http server.

thanks
can u tell me how to fix the http server?

my server is running fine.
i just have a doubt that it goes slow sometimes when the httpd doesnt work.

does this mean there is a problem with the server or is it a normal function of apache.

or could it be due to my high site traffic?

I doubt anything like you describe is normal for apache.
Check the logs and search around for the info. groups.google.com is a good place to start.
