Set a cron job to run "apachectl restart" once per hour. But if you ask me, that's a bad solution. Instead fix the http server.

thanks can u tell me how to fix the http server? my server is running fine. i just have a doubt that it goes slow sometimes when the httpd doesnt work. does this mean there is a problem with the server or is it a normal function of apache. or could it be due to my high site traffic? -S

I doubt anything like you describe is normal for apache. Check the logs and search around for the info. groups.google.com is a good place to start.
