I am trying to open and display a file on an HP UNIX box that is access through an apache server via a proxy and display the file in an Internet Explorer window. I've tried the direct approach, using .htaccess and neither work. The http statement I tried is:

[###.###.###.###:9001...]

and I get:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /users/directory/files/file.cfg on this server.

Apache/1.3.12 Server

My .htaccess file has:

AuthType Basic
AuthName "Configuration Files"
AuthUserFile /users/directory/files/.htpasswd
<Limit GET POST PUT>
require valid-user
</Limit>

Any clues or help would be appreciative.

Check the permissions on the file you are requesting. chmod 757 or 777

Am I right in assuming that the unix box hosting is not connected directly to the web and is conected through a second computer over your lan?

Yes, I can access via dirwrap.cgi and can read the directories fine, but I am unable to open the files.
