The folks here [linux-debian.de] just got done putting together OO packages for Debian. Open Office is close to a have if you are a linux user who wants good M$ compatibility.

OpenOffice.org Release 1.0 just came out on 1st of May, and I am half-way through the downloading (mirror is a bit slow this morning). What else can make a man happy? It was Mozilla 1.0 last month, and now OpenOffice.org 1.0 :)

I downloaded the tar.gz from 3 different locations now, the german version that is.
Every time I try to unpack with tar -xvf I get the message: this does not look like a tar archive...
This being only my third installation under Linux (Redhat) I'm a bit puzzled as to what the problem should be...

The only time I get that message is when I have forgotten to gunzip the file before I use the tar command.
