I got a linspire OS computer at a great price but was very frustrated by their CNR. I was able to install php, mysql, apache with apt-get. Even have smarty installed and everything works. The computer is now great for a development tool but of course the console is now screwed up in linspire. (double spaces between letters, clear doesn't work, etc.) Have installed putty so ssh is not a problem.

Any sugestions on how to install something to use as a basic console?

One answer to my own question.

I just went to the console and typed "xterm"
