it's only showning a fraction of the amount of links it used to - does anyone else see the same?

Yes I do. I checked a few domains and they are all messed up, internal and external links. Ranking was still the same for keyword searches though. Looks like they have made some changes...

Don't see that, get only external links, assuming we are talking about the URL Investigator.

What I did notice is no more dmoz/dmoz clones in backlinks, didn't check extensively though.

I had over 33000 backlinks because links pointing from my home page internally were all counted. now i have 5! That's very wrong because just yesterday I had about 50 inbound links plus all the internal links. Other sites in my industry still have their internal links intact as well as external so I'm not sure what's going on.

The important thing is not how many links are shown in a command like link:, or even the URL Investigator feature.
As with Google, what you see as backlinks is not necessarily what ATW counts for your site as backlinks.

I agree with that heini but it just seems strange the 33,000 links disappeared overnight and my site is still actively spidered by ATW. I mean if it was a difference of just a few, then I wouldn't even notice or care but I'm very curious as to what would have caused ALL my internal site links to go away.

Strange indeed....one of my sites went up by 50 external web page links yesterday ( to just under 3000 ) and totally disappeared from the face of alltheweb today :(

They must be reindexing or something worse....

Cheers,

Jonny

This is really weird and it is not only about links. Many sites are no longer there, ATW have only indexed 2 pages of their own site and some 10 million English pages in total where it used to be 1.7 billion English pages a month ago (Language distribution in AlltheWeb [webmasterworld.com]). They also seem to have changed the url for a search (see this thread [webmasterworld.com]).

So, are they are in the process of merging dbs?

Major changes indeed. I amd seeing hundreds of dropped links across three different sites, as well as changes in the SERPS.

Down to 5 links on one site. Google shows 62 and AV shows 150.

One site I've been watching was showing 300 backlinks yesterday and right now it's showing 8.

also seeing that backlinks are missing, as are pages on my site. i used to have 80+ incoming links, now i have 5. i used to have about 10,000 pages listed under allinurl, now i have 1 (home page).

i have to assume/hope that this is something temporary.

Indeed! I was expecting another load added today after a big advertising campaign...

if they dont appear on ATW they've no chance of appearing on big G!

It must be doing some major re-indexing....my links just went from 0 to 73....still not overly close to 3000 though ;)

Well - mine went from over 30,000 to 5 to now 23,235. Looks like things are just in flux and are getting back to normal.

Still see no ODP/Clones backlinks - anybody?

Also: the people with considerably less backlinks shown: did rankings drop?

Mines are up from a previous 5 to 15 now, so indeed it looks like a temporary problem that is being fixed.

(I have never monitored ATW closely)

Backlinks have dropped to 7, from hundreds for index page.

Was ranked somewhere on first two pages. Searched back to page 9 today and still can't find it. It is still there somewhere.

The snippet is way out of date. Like a year or more. They show our old address again.

Yah, I noticed some changes in ATW recently regarding pages, freshness, and backlinks. Anybody else notice that ATW changed their click tracking to the same format as AltaVista uses for their click tracking on all SERPs? I don't envy the integration issues that might face Overture/Altavista/ATW, but I hope that things go smoothly for them..

The number of English indexed pages is now 1.85 billion, so it looks the problem is over.

They are definitely working in the background, advanced search options give rather skewed results.

The past ten days or so I've been getting crawled by FAST more, and my pages in the index have dropped through the floor. I was stuck for several months at about 190 pages of a 300 page site being indexed. Then I went to 160, then to 90, then yesterday to 40.

The only change I've made is I switched my main page (that is, one page paid) pfi from insite select to position tech. Once again, even if not true, it sure looks like the absolute worst thing you can do is pay one of the Fast partners.

Things are still changing at ATW.
My backlinks increased from 7 to 11 overnight. Still no sign of ODP backlink. Only three pages reported as indexed.

Well, the link:mysite.com/ search I've been watching was up from a low of 8 to 115 results this morning, and now it's up to 468, compared to 300 or thereabouts a couple of days ago before this all started. If that's real, I'm smiling!

On one site, AV backlinks skyrocketed 5X a few weeks ago. Last night, ATW increased by 2X to almost exactly match AV's count, which both I must say, are the most accurate [highest ;)] count from any SE that I monitor.

recall of the G dance threads here? :)

Frankly I'm reluctant to take those backlink counts serious in any shape or form at this point.
