Ah posted the same minute as you :) What i find strange is that they charge more? Is it because they feel that you should pay them more for the tools they have?

They may charge more but you get a better administration interface and reporting.

I just found this today when I went to add a couple new URLs. Has anyone had good traffic results with FAST?

Our site gets great results with Fast (and I never tried to optimise for them!) but no traffic... I have no idea why... Maybe the only people who are so hyped about Fast are the people who come to forums like this- and nobody else cares... ;)

Fast is a great search engine, but they don't have a high-traffic partner like Ink/MSN, or Google/Yahoo. If they land one, they will rocket right to the top overnight. Unless that happens, your PFI dollars might not have the returns you would hope for. IMHO Fast provides a powerful moderating force against the remaining SE's dominating the web. To that extent I encourage people to join their PFI program as I have, as a vote of support and confidence. Hopefully Fast will get a big partner soon (we all know who that is) but I hope they don't sell themselves down the hopper to do so. I'd rather see them around for the long run, even if they have to settle for third or forth place while the top guys fight it out.

We're in the UK and we get zip, zilch, nada, nothing. This is despite being listed really well for our keywords. Out of all our search engine traffic Fast is at 2%... Even Directhit beats them... ;)

Mike, no. Also, it is only partly true that FAST is big here: In Sweden and Norway (and partly Finland) but not in Denmark If you want Danish visitors only I have yet to see one case that can justify the inclusion - but for cross Scandinavian campaigns FAST is a good choice (if only you have 4 language versions of your site hehe).

OK. Let's do the math here Mikkel. We spend $150 on a few pages on each domain. Niche words, low volume hence a resonable ppc. Would it be fair to say, if we get 750 qualified clicks/$0.20 ppc, we're happy? That's 10 pages generating only 75 clicks per url per year in 5 languages including english. Hmm, not bad. >you have 5 language versions Of course. Scandinavian companies that are serious about se marketing in Scandinavia better have! >advertise Some. Their partner SOL once had a high profile product manager. I think they still profit from it ;) Only number 3, 6 and 10 [epm.netratings.com] between top web advertisers in Sweden in August 2002. 4* and 8 [epm.netratings.com] in Denmark (*Only a small part of the Jubii searches). Add ATW's and Lycos's international reach and you have a good number of monthly searches. Anyway, we manage several clients where paying FAST has been profitable and easy to justify. Quick question about this service. If I have a new url, can I just submit the index page and if it's set up corectly the whole site will get spidered and included or do I have to submit every individual page?

Kevin, you have to submit every page.

I found PT to be outstanding. I've only submitted my index page and after several months, other pages started being found for keywords. I recommend getting in FAST now because you never know when FAST will become the next important database. I get no traffic from them now with great position...but you never know.

imo it's well worth paying for a few Fast pages and using different densities, page title structures, metas, etc., just for research purposes. We can never know what the future holds and it pays to be prepared, it could pay off in the long run. I've got a client site we'll be doing just like that, with full explanation that it's not for traffic right now, it'll be a long term investment. We have the index page in sitting at #15, but can't touch it, since we can't tamper with our Google rankings. We'll just do a couple more for very specific, targeted secondary phrases, since the main keyword phrases are fairly competitive. When someone is in it for the long haul they'll accept it very gracefully and interpret it to mean that you're being honest with them and taking an active interest in their long-range marketing objectives. We'll do these with PT because we want the data they provide.

How about letting people that have already signed up with Fast move our account over to PT? I already have a PT account for Ink PFI's.

mayor, if I remember correctly the $18 USD was for Lycos network membership. And I wonder if it would be feasible for PT to provide data for pages they didn't get paid for.

They lost my site for a few weeks, but now I'm back in and doing fine with ranking... and since Fast still offers free submission, and I see their bot crawl regularily, why would I pay? Now if they would start sending me traffic... <added> Just checked and in the last 6 days, Lycos has referred 28 and Fast 11, which together rank about the bottom - better than nothing I guess.</added>

>move our account over to PT Mayor, I Marcia said it. If you signed up with Lycos, PT would have take pages that are maybe only have a few months left before they have to renewed. Then there's the additional data that you get through PT that Lycos doesn't offer. I think it would be too much administration moving it from one provider to another. In 12 months everyone wanting to switch, can just sign their pages up with the new provider. I see your point though - I would love it too, if I could move all my pages from Lycos to PT ;)

Marcia >> wonder if it would be feasible for PT to provide data for pages they didn't get paid for How 'bout it Jim. Would ten bucks do the job for a page transfer? If it's too much hassle to administer, I understand why you would say no. Maybe Fast will support the effort because funneling existing accounts into a familiar and developed PFI interface like yours should be to everyone's advantage.

Does anyone know the the current relation between Fast and AllTheWeb / Lycos? Maybe it would be a good idea to have a new WebmasterWorld forum entitled -"Search Provider/Search Engine Relations" OWTTE. There comes a point when shifting sands become quicksand. I have to keep a fat written log to try to keep track of who I've submitted to - and through which organisation. (edit - minor ggrammaticall errror)

>Does anyone know the the current relation between Fast and AllTheWeb / Lycos? That's an easy one ;) Fast is a search technology provider. ATW (AlltheWeb) is a web search engine, used as showcase and R & D sandbox by Fast. Lycos is a worldwide portal, which uses Fast websearch for most of it's entities. Lycos also has made a small strategic investment in Fast. For all outlets of Fast websearch see this overview: [webmasterworld.com...]

I don't think Ink minds at all. The deal creates even more awareness on pfi and as long as PT pushes the product, Ink must be happy. Good to see you back again, Backus. We were wondering about you :)
