.....Terra Lycos is exploring new revenue streams linked to subscriptions, including charging for search and high-speed services, Stephen Killeen, the U.S. head of the Spanish Internet media group, said in an interview Thursday.........Killeen said the company would have more news regarding paid search in the near term.
Paid search? What could they offer that Google doesnīt give for free? Fast has just announced a news search; Fast is also good at video, mp3, picture and ftp search - but this is free on alltheweb. Easily imaginable however are subscription based entertainment channels. Lycos has just sealed an agreement with Bertelsmann, co-owner of Lycos.europe, to integrate Bertelsmann entertainment content on their portals. Story here - german [heise.de] Especially books - Bertelsmann practically owns the US bookmarket - and music - Bertelsmann sees itīs Napster investment go down the drain and is OTOH a heavyweight in music industry. Audio streaming and Video-on-demand - which in turn explains why TerraLycos is so keen on pushing broadband technology.
