Lycos.com without entities?

 10:48 am on Mar 5, 2002 (gmt 0)

if you try a search with [lycos.com...] for words with entities how accent grave, circumflex, umlaut,... you became no results, or very few.
For instant, try a search with german word "büro" or with french "cinèma",...

I think earlyer it was work with lycos.com. It works well on local versions lycos.de and lycos.fr.

any suggestions?

Right, Lycos.com does not return any results on searches inluding extended characters.
Ove had posted this some days earlier - no idea what's wrong there.

lycospro.lycos.com the same? Looks different lately. I think it is a different engine in there. I've tried to figure out what they are doing there and where the stray traffic really comes from, but no joy.

>lycospro.lycos.com the same?

Think so, but they retuned 0 results on some searches I did with umlaut (dänemark).
Lycos.com returned 4
Alltheweb returned 307,000

That is odd.

Maybe lycospro is only a travel related chunk of the db?

Brett, at lycospro all those searches with extended characters return the regular amount of listings, i.e. Fast serps. The extended characters however don't get displayed correct on the serps.
ü[//] for example isü[/b]

In the standard search on lycos.com those results don't show up.
