Saw a funny thing on Alltheweb.com today: as one of the start here listings an ad for lycos-submit-your-site showed up. Now there's just no reason to advertise for a submit, which most likely doesn't have any effect whatsoever. But to promote Lycos adspace on the submit site, that is.
Interesting also to note: Those listings were reported to be on sale for bidders on Kanoodle. Today I see rotating Lycos network listings in that place. They wouldn´t have bid at Kanoodle for those?
Brett it was on top of regular websearch serps on alltheweb. As reported earlier alltheweb displayed the same start here paid listings as Lycos.com. Those listings were the top bids from Kanoodle. On the day of my posting however those start here listings were all for different lycos network sections.
Today however I don't see any start here listings at all. From what I saw those listings have been on and off nearly all the time. No idea why.
I see "start here" listings for competitive keywords, i.e. "caribbean cruise".
Alltheweb "start here" is a kanoodle redirect while lycos is a doubleclick redirect. Top 10 results on serps are excactly the same.
Can't say what is going on, but Knut Risvik from FAST announced an expected update last week, as the second of 3 major technology updates. The update hasn't showed up yet so I think a lot of experiments and testing is going on at Alltheweb.
