Hello andsc
welcome to WmW
Lycos Europe is powered by Fast. To rank well there youīll find good links are very helpful. For me optimizing/building a site for Google always works well for Fast too.
If you are concerned about Lycos.ru anyhow, Iīm not really sure on the db used there. Does Lycos.ru deliver only russian results or is there an international search too? It looks like a filtered Fast db, but very small.

The US version of Lycos uses Fast db also, implemented are directhit results.
I have not come across a detailed analysis on how Fast/Lycos evaluates linkpopularity. Nothing like the pagerank system at Google which to a certain degree can be deciphered. I suppose Fastīs way of measuring linkpop is not as sophisticated as Googles. But then I do not think itīs such a central part of the algo as with Google.
Anybody else?
