Indextools vs the Big Guns

Over the last week I've heard demos from all of the big names in Analytics:
Omniture
WebSideStory
Coremetrics
etc.

After I heard the prices, I did some more research and found IndexTools.

Their product seems to be just as high level as the other competitors but at a much more affordable price.

Anybody have any negative comments on IndexTools? They seem to be very friendly and very easy to use.

Thanks!

Edit: One more thing, how do IndexTools and DeepMetrix stack up, whcih is better these days?

If you have limited traffic (page views) you should definitely, absolutely consider IndexTools or one of its like, because they provide good basic reporting at an utterly reasonable cost. There are quite a few others mentioned elsewhere in this forum, too.

At the same time, I hope you will think about a year's cost of these services and ask yourself whether you would be better off getting one of the less pricey software packages, which you can use virtually forever and which might also give you more flexibility: re-analyzing your data if you decide to change anything, re-analyzing subsets of your logs for more focused views, as well as expanded features like more filtering choices and the ability to tabulate the values of URL query parameters. It will require knowing more about the process, and you may not have time to spend learning it, though.

Finally, if you think IndexTools is "just as high level" as the "big guns", then the missing functionality probably doesn't matter to you, and you can save a lot of money. But you might want to take another look around once you get your feet wet because your needs could change.

cgrantski,

Thanks for the reply. I may purchase a log analysis tool as well, for the purposes you list, but the reason I am leaning towards IndexTools is the need for more ecommerce base tracking. The built in ecommerce analytics are better than any log analysis tool I can find. Maybe I'm missing something. As for the "big guns," they certainly have a bit more functionality than IndexTools, but it wasn't much, and certainly not enough to justify a 1000% increase in cost.

asherburne,

We've been using Index Tools for our clients for the last two years and have found their service to be excellent.

Their latest e-business product can also cope with up to 100 million page views per month - so plenty of capacity!

On second look, Indextools is missing some of the more advanced ecommerce features of the big guys. In some cases, the data is there, but it is a bit more complicated to create the report.

In any case, Indextools seems to have 90% of the functionality at a fraction of the cost.

Yeah, I'm a secret agent.

Actually, the company I work for is revamping our ecommerce site dramatically, and one of the reasons I was hired was to make sure we do the most with it that we can. At my last employer, I used Webtrends and was satisfied for what I needed. But I haven't done ecommerce before and I was appalled at the prices for the big name products. I went through all the demos, and don't get me wrong, I'd happily jump on the bandwagon if I had the money. Sadly, I don't.

I actually found IndexTools and DeepMetrix after I came to this forum (which I am grateful for). Which is why I thought "Hey, maybe these people can help me in my search." If I was doing a product drop, do you think the first post I would make would be one asking for negative feedback on that product?

I'm here because I'm skeptical of how the product appears nearly equal, but the cost is so much lower. Basically, I don't want to buy a fake Rolex, just because it looks like a real one. So, I'll ask again, are there any drawbacks I should be aware of? Any potential pitfalls? Is the coding more taxing on my resources? Is it too difficult to find important data? Etc. etc.

Please, if there are any rational people out there, I would appreciate some help.

Hi There,

>In any case, IndexTools seems to have 90% of the functionality at a fraction of the cost.

We are of course flattered about an endorsement as good as this.

If any of you have any questions about missing features, you are more than welcome to get back to us on a one to one basis. As we launch the IndexTools Enterprise edition this first quarter with extended possibilities, going into competition with the "Big Guns". :)

Kind regards,
Dennis R. Mortensen
