Online Surveys/Polls Participation Rate
What should I expect?

 6:37 pm on Jan 5, 2004 (gmt 0)

Hi guys,

We've recently launched a survey/poll (a 2 question poll appearing on each page) and I was wondering if there's any rough numbers out there to compare to in terms of participation rate.

I'm sure lots of factors can influence those numbers, but roughly what kind of ratio should someone expect? 1/1000? 1/1000000?

It depends on what your site offers. If the survey is part of the site (ie, for a community, etc) then you may have higher participation. Rewards will also create higher participation. Expect higher than your sales conversion rate by a factor of 5-10. Ie, if you have a 1% conversion rate on your sales, you may have a 5-10% conversion rate to get people to fill out your survey.

Your mileage may vary, of course.
