Need help getting bg image to stop tiling
seeking code that will prevent background images from tiling

 2:49 pm on Jun 4, 2002 (gmt 0)

Hello. My name is Shelly, and I just designed a Web site for the Lantern Inn in Betterton, Md., www.lanterninn.com. My pal at Unisys reports that the background image, 800 X 1000, tiles on his browser so that the left side shows up again on the right side. How do I code it so that the background image will not tile? Thank you for your help.

Novice view...

I would extend the two blues and the red out to accomidate the higer resolution settings. Asthetics wise I would then move the hotel image over also.

Hi Shelly

in your stylesheet:

body {
background-image: url(path/to/img.jpg);
background-position: 0px 0px;
background-repeat: no-repeat;

Hope that helps!

Hi shelley,

nick, you been looking at my CSS? Carbon copy ;)

I am encountering the same issue. The biggest problem I have with anything repeating is the way in which the background image lines up with one another when repeated......thus screen resolution is an issue here. 1000 pixel wide images are fine for 1026x768 and 800x600 resolutions with browers open full screen.......but larger resolutions will bring back the horrible problem.....or lots of white space.

In light of the horrible problems in mind....it may be a suggestion to position the background image in the centre.

But essentially, what Nick stated is the answer my WYSIWYG gave me a few weeks ago :)

Rather than centering the image, you could just make sure the edges of the graphic fade out to your body bgcolor, or that the graphic is designed to look appropriate floating in the upper corner of a large screen. Kind of the opposite of designing it specifically to tile...
