Automating repetitive tasks
macro software to edit images [ resize , sharpen, auto levels ]

 10:16 am on Apr 23, 2005 (gmt 0)

I publish a large amount of pictures on my website in a daily news section. Each picture has to be resized, in Fireworks I adjust colour levels ( auto levels ), resize and usually sharpen the image.

Does anybody know of a tool that could automate this task , in particular the resizing ( new width is always the same ) and output contents to a new folder. Ideally what id like to do is be able to run the macro as i explore the folder and select the photos..right clicking to call the script to action .

You can create really powerful actions (scripts) in Adobe Photoshop. From these actions you can batch process entire folders of images. Of course Photoshop is not a cheap application but it is well worth the intial outlay,

Fireworks has a pretty nice batch process option that lets you save your batch script. It's reasonably user friendly, and works on the same model the rest of the program does.

Hi -
Just wanted to mention a free option: PhotoFiltre.

It's a small editing program that has a Tools - Automate/Batch function that's very fast and handy - you can even specify some canvas size & color if doing a whole bunch of thumbnails, etc.

This is what I usually use to input pics from usb and discs, as well.
