Yahoo seems to be doing something right now:
Just did a Yahoo search for the same two word search term <place name><widget> within a few minutes of each other on 4 different browsers (just as a test). The placement results for a page on my site were as follows:
Firefox - position 1
Internet Explorer - position 17
Netscape - position 17
Opera - position 14
I presume they are updating their algo.
I have checked the results several times, so I know they are right.
Can anyone with a bit more experience than myself throw a bit of light on this.

Re my previous post
I just checked a few more similar search terms - similar except for different place names.
The results were always the same:
-Consistently good results in Firefox.
-Lesser results in Opera.
-Slightly poorer but identical results in Internet Explorer and Netscape.

Why should it depends on the type of browser?

Delete yahoo's cookies in your browsers and check again.
I see consistent differences in Yahoo SERPs when I check for popular search phrases from different addresses.

I reported here that I saw a huge decrease in rankings on Yahoo but on August 5th my rankings were back where they were. I checked again today and they are back decreased again. Are people still witnessing an algo update?

The Yahoo search blog reported this back on August 8th:
|Note that as with all index updates we are still tuning things so you’ll continue to see some fluctuation in ranking over the next few weeks. |
I have not seen any change myself since this post. I haven't seen anyone else reporting much either. For some reason, Slurp has really slowed down on my site. I know the month is not over, but June stats looked like this:
Googlebot - 3368
MSNbot - 2484
Slurp - 1737
While August looks like this:
Googlebot - 5293
MSNbot - 2253
Slurp - 244
The site has about 1,000 pages right now...

Does anyone know when Yahoo's updates are going to finish? and fluctuations to sabilize?

The Yahoo update has been finished for awhile now. Algo/serp tuning seems to be an ongoing process with all the search engines. Tim has said they run as many as twelve tests a day, so some changes you see could be from that.
If you feel dissatisfied with the serps and feel Y needs to hear about it, you might consider emailing them at email@example.com.
