Yahoo Directory Changes Listing Method
Looks like new sites first, then ranked by popularity?

Nice catch.

Gotta love it if you were listed in the most popular section. Alot fewer listings per page as well.

I like it, it has more of a search engine to it than a directory

I'm seeing 40 listings per page as a default. others getting that too?

Not very good if you are being pushed off to a second page.

My site was in the "most popular" section for years and it's actually in the same place it was, they just added the "not so popular" directly after the "most popular".

So no biggie, still at the top :-)

How do they determine the "popularity" of a site?

Yahoo UK is free now. You can submit sites free of charge to the directory

Good catch Steve.

Even better catch webmktg!

If you click 'suggest a site' in the Yahoo UK directory you get this message:

Yahoo! UK Ltd. is no longer offering Express service on our UK & Ireland portal. This service is now offered only by Yahoo! Inc. on its U.S.-based portal.

To submit your site to the Yahoo! UK & Ireland Directory, click here.

To submit your site to Yahoo! UK & Ireland web search, click here.

To learn more about paid search listings offered by Overture Services Ltd. in the UK, click here.

The UK & Ireland directory link takes you to a free submit form :)

So how do you see it, a temporary measure before a new pay system is in place, or the possible demise of a separate UK & Ireland directory?

An end to the one time payment, and only the recurring payment available... as well as centralizing all Directory submissions to the same staff.

>>as well as centralizing all Directory submissions to the same staff.

I think that the submissions have been this way for quite some time.

Yes I expect all new listings to have to pay a recurring annual fee for directory inclusion.

Yahoo! UK Ltd. is no longer offering Express service on our UK & Ireland portal.

Same for Yahoo Germany, but the state that this is since October 2004 and is valid for all European Yahoo Directories.

One of my sites is listed as the number 1 most popular in two categories. But since they changed the format, my traffic from the directory has not changed. I wonder how many people actually use the directory any more.
