I'm not sure if Free Submit works, but Yahoo definitely does still include sites into their directory for free. I run a sports related site, and Yahoo added it with no request from myself to do so.

I recently used Free Submit. Did it on a friday afternoon and the site (non commercial) was added next tuesday afternoon.

Congrats. It's good to know yahoo hasn't closed the door on free directory listings for someone.
(going on year two and no joy here, oh well)

Do you mean that your site was added to the Yahoo! directory? Or simply that it showed up in a web search. These are very different things.
At Yahoo! you can either do a Web search or a Directory search.
Also they only let you use free submit if your site is not-for-profit. Is your site not-for-profit?
(Don't mean to sound like I'm lecturing. I'm trying to figure this stuff out myself!)

Peter, yes to the Yahoo! Directory.
It's just a site I run as a hobby. I do have Adsense running, but I guess that didn't matter.

They are still adding new categories and I just had a link added recently (it's still marked "new"). Like sysdomatic, I hadn't submitted the page; they just found it and added it on their own.
