Chow's departure is just one of a string of recent resignations that have left four of Yahoo's international operations chiefless. The Internet portal's general manager in China, Dennis Zhang, quietly departed in January; the head of the European operation, Fabiola Arredondo, quit Feb. 15; and the resignation of Yahoo Korea CEO Jin Youm came to light last week.
The official reasons given for the departures ranged from the vague (Arredondo is "pursuing other business interests") to the distressing: Youm needs to be with his two children who are in the United States being treated for rare diseases. Joanna Stevens, the spokeswoman at Yahoo headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif., maintains that the rush of resignations "is nothing more than a coincidence. Yahoo's international expansion to date has been very successful. We're No. 1 worldwide."
