Web Rank:
The popularity ranking of the site you are visiting as interpreted by Yahoo!

Here is the WR FAQ: [help.yahoo.com...]

I have yet to see a page with rank...not even yahoo.com. Maybe you need to be logged in?

Who wants to trade high WR links? hahaha

<edit>It is actually working about 50% of the time</edit>

You don't need to be logged in. I'm seeing it ok. Yahoo and Google are both (gasp!) ten.

From the help page:

To help determine a site's Yahoo! Web Rank value, the Yahoo! Companion Toolbar collects anonymous URL data about sites visited by Toolbar users who have enabled the Yahoo! Web Rank feature and sends this information back to Yahoo!. The Toolbar does not collect personally identifiable information about you (e.g., your name, phone number, email address, etc.).

Ugh... I'm glad I didn't wake up to this... I've uninstalled it - too busy and like the Alexa toolbar. Does it even have an impact on search?

This may seem like a dumb question, but if I have the toolbar installed but under View->Toolbars I uncheck the Yahoo (or Google) toolbar, can they still collect data from me?

Gee this is fantastic I can see Google PR by using this new Yahoo toolbar, seems to be exactly the same, oh I'm so happy.

Its not the same. It is based on traffic from toolbar users. This is Yahoo's take on the Alexa toolbar.

If they use this to rank sites they're crazy.

Saying that, I'm off to break out my IP spoofing kit and buy 50 old computers. Time for the real pigeon-rank. ;)

To change your toolbar options, you need to sign into your Yahoo account or ID. Hmmmm...

Better yet...who wants to be the first to try to sell WR? :P

Oh no another toolbar!

Already installed and I can confirm that the ranking is not the same as the G toolbar on all the sites I have been.

My index page has a webrank of 5 but is not in the Y! index.

What's the use of the ranking then?

Guys... Read the posts: the WR is based on how many toolbar users have visitited the sites.

And just to show me up Yahoo have this on one of the beta help pages:
The Web Rank values are calculated using a sophisticated scoring algorithm provides a measure of the popularity of the Web page or Web site that you are visiting.

Oh well...

For those with limited pages in the datebase, from the Web Rank help page:

The toolbar helps Yahoo "to discover new public sites faster and incorporate those sites into the Yahoo! Search index resulting in more comprehensive search results."

and

"Yahoo! Web Rank helps alert the Yahoo! Search crawler to the existence of a particular Web site or Web page, and direct a crawler to visit that Web site or Web page for inclusion in Yahoo! Search if it is not already in the Yahoo! Search index."

Added two lines to my right click menu, add page to Yahoo favorites and email page to a friend.

I had a sneaky feeling about this, and was clicking around Yahoo this afternoon looking for it but I didn't find it.

This was one of the big rumors at PubCon.

I can't see any ranks on mine!

Also, the options added to the right click menus are a bit annoying.

Still it could be a very useful tool :)

This is a total copy of PageRank (using the same type of ranking system, but sort of on a different db), how could Yahoo do this?

I'm having problems installing. I click the install button, get to the next page that says "a new window will open with the toolbar installed" and ... nothing.

I'm using IE6.0 on w2k.

I notice it also overtakes the "search" button in IE with their own Yahoo search, a "make Yahoo your home page" link, and a ton of links to their various sections.

The WR icon is present when I'm not signed in but doesn't work. Then it decides just to disappear totally when I do sign in. Slightly frustrating that you have to sign in to decide what buttons you want on the toolbar.

msg:846262

The upside to having to sign in for your buttons is that it is the same toolbar buttons/layout if you are at home or work. I have been using the toolbar for a while now, since I yahoo email is my non work default, so it was nice not having to reconfigure it.

Has anyone who installed this notice any extra bot activity to their site yet?

/sorry, just happened again today.

So I'm hearing that the Yahoo WR is NOT LIKE (or NOT USED LIKE THE GOOGLE PR) in ranking pages?

Tim,
If you are out there, could you clear this up?

Chris_R

msg:846265

If I could get it to WORK I could figure it all out, but alas it looks like a piece of crap. Since Tim is a nice guy and It is supposed to be in beta or something I will let it slide :)

Can't Get the Rank to Show Up.
Doesn't Ask me about it when I Sign Up.

This is 10x more complicated than the Google Toolbar. If you want people to use it - then it shouldn't require you to log in to change options and stuff. None of the options, by the way, seem to be the web rank that I can find.

You need to follow the top link on the first
post. It has an option to install the version with
web rank. It took me a minute too :)

Most people here will likely prefer the "Search Companion Toolbar" to the "My Companion Toolbar". Click the down arrow by the Y! and you get the more useful buttons.

Eeew. Looks like door has closed.

Thank you for inquiring about the 5.4 external Beta test. The Beta testing group is now full.

If you snoozed, you lost.
