There have been numerous postings about sites being dropped by Google for many reasons. While our site never suffered that fate on Google, two days ago, we seemed to drop from the Yahoo SERPS. Our site had been steadily climbing from the depths and had reached page 3, and then dropped for an important keyword phrase.
I know there is a good possibility that is is a temporary situation as we are still listed in the directory and can still be found by searching for the domain. Anybody else having this issue or know why a site would be dropped from Yahoo?
Actually, It is still in Google. Doing well...not yet. I have been trying to guage our competitors to try and figure out what they have been doing. We have the same backlinks, if not more, and more info on the site. Our SEO is relatively new and we moved into the the first 3 pages on Yahoo and then blam...gone. On Google we are still fighting for position but have moved up.
We are moving from a virtual host to a static IP this week as our competitors in the top 10 or positions all have them.
I am just surprised to see so much progress and then get dropped. I can still find our site by domain and we are still in the directory, so what gives.
My understanding is that the Google Dance is over now. They seem to be updating throughout the month, not just once a month as they did before. They do update PR once a month, but rankings fluctuate.
As to how this affects Yahoo, there are also several things at play. One is that sometimes Yahoo pulls from a different data center than the one that's live with Google. Also, there's talk of potential site or keyword penalties applied by Yahoo.
Really all you can do at the moment is keep getting links and optimizing your anchor text and for the moment that'll help you rank in Yahoo. Also, you could start looking into Ink in preparation of the switch.
