Conversion Rates
Is pay per click search engine traffic working for you?

I am collecting data on conversion rates regarding traffic from pay per click search engines.

I would like to have as much information as I can on the quality of traffic people are receiving from pay per click search engine advertising.

What conversion rates are you achieving, what do you do to make your conversion rates go up and what things do you change when they go down.

If you know of any articles, research or information anyone has gathered along these lines, I would be very appreciative if you could point me in their direction.

I am happy to share the information I have gathered and compiled with you after I complete my research.

Thanks for your help.

>I am collecting data on conversion rates....

Better layout your methodology Nathan.
How do you wish to look at data and what data is it.

This will be difficult for people to answer without a little example of some sort.

Well, what conversion rates are you getting from pay per click traffic?

If your conversion rate is not as good as you would like, what do you change to make more sales?

When you change the copy on your site that sells the product you are advertising, does the conversion rate go up or down?

Does a change in your site title or description in a pay per click search engine change your conversion rate for the better?

Any information regarding these questions and other questions along these lines would be greatly appreciated.

Any information at all.

Why don't we use this as an extreme example.

Say I have a free site.
URL cheapJUNKsites.com/~goofy-stuff/affiliateHOST.shtml
I push traffic to an affiliates hosting program.
The program offers 5MB for $21.00 per month with 1 GIG bandwidth free.
Everything else including support in an extra charge.
NOTE: I chose this affiliate program because they pay 50% for life.

I bid $0.51 on KW "hosting" at GoTo and appear on the first page of results.

Title:
Cheapest Place to put your Site!

Description:
Get connected to multiple OC-3's. Backup batteries and emergency generators. Affiliate.
www.cheapJUNKsites.com (Cost to advertiser: $0.51)

I don't sell *^¦#
Do I need to rethink my strategy?

In real life, we convert 1/74 on an e-commerce hosting solution and 1/170 on an adult site hosting solution. It took us 3 months to convince to e-commerce hosting provider to take off the banner ads which were stalling to the load time in NS4x. The load time was without a doubt effecting sales. We don't bid on the KW "hosting"
