Infoseek in Japan.
Alive and well?

 2:26 pm on Jan 30, 2001 (gmt 0)

According to a note in Disney's financial statement for 2000, their Internet Group divested themselves of Infoseek Japan in November. The deal is supposed to be finalized during Q1 this year. So it would seem that Infoseek will live on in Japan (and in Germany, as far as can be seen today.)

I hope they do. That's where I get the bulk of my Infoseek/Go traffic.

I am not suprised. They have 80 million page views per month in Germany. I have asked the press officer of their German holding company for a statement. Will post it in the Germany thread if they respond. Perhaps Bill could find out about the situation in Japan.

Well, if their corporate web site is anything to go by, it's business as usual in Japan for Infoseek. The last press release mentions their i-seek search engine for i-Mode phones, and announces an online soccer game that can be played on your phone. No eulogies for their former parent company's demise in the US. Other than the news of the closure of GO.com and Disney's failure to make a successful portal, I haven't seen any news about Infoseek. I'll keep an eye out though...

good news rencke...

we always get good referrals from Goo for some reason..but infoseek is working for us to.
With the new Google tie up in Japan it may be that it is well the land of the rising sun for us at least..
