Baidu visits daily, reads my index.html file and simply leaves. Much the same happens with Sogou. I get a very few visits referred by B and S, even some email spam in Chinese (that I can't read) but no spidering of internal pages at all.
Is there some way to encourage Baidu, Sogou etc. to spider more deeply?
I have no Chinese content, but lots of Chinese visitors auto-translate my pages, top level and down deeper. -Larry
You may have answered your own question there...A lack of Chinese language content might be the key. I know that some Japanese spiders used to do that. They'd check for Japanese content and leave immediately if they didn't find any.
If you want the Chinese traffic then localized content is the first thing you'll need.
Baidu strongly prefers Chinese content. We have about 1/4 Chinese content and Baidu indexes this in strong preference to the English and Japanese content. It doesn't index deeply but still indexes far more extensively than Google. Baidu currently has 256,000 of our ~1 million Chinese pages; Google only has about 100.
