Few link questions.
Buying a site.

Hi, im in the process of buying a site. www.domain.com has a pr6 with 640 incoming links. domain.com/blog/ has a pr7 with 16K incoming links. The site is about 4 years old.

When i use the link feature in google, the first 80 or so are all different domains with high pr. The rest of them are other blogs with decent pr but are like blog.blogspot.com or blog.typepad.com

What is your opinion of the overal value of these links? I am in the <edited> industry for the most part and most sites arent above pr5. I'm thinking this should do very well in the SERP. In my experience pr is usually enough to carry <our sector's> content.

Also, domain.com/blog/ has a ton of out going links. I'm probably going to cut them way down. Will anything bad happen with this?

I wouldn't buy a site based on PR, rather I'd ask if it has the traffic you want and how much is that traffic worth to you.

The google link command is worthless. PR can be faked. Do a search for "www.domain.com" with quotes. That shows you more links. The best thing to tell is see what it ranks for. Look at the home page and blog home page title. Try differnt searches using the words in their title. If it is not number one for its title then it is not worth much. Unless they just have one or two words in the title. Look at the age. The older the better. Also bloggers are funny. If you don't keep the site the way it is they may take down their links. It is always a good idea to study the links. Decide what the risk is of losing them. If you see any red flags don't do it. I have purchased many sites and have never been burned by following these rules.

Well im atcually going to leave the blog how it is an have the writers continue to run the blog portion of it. im buying it to create some new subdomains and pages that will be optimized for what i want. its hard to see what it ranks for because the blog isnt optimized for anything specific. it is a personal blog about whatever arises. its not based on topic.

I'm think that if it is pr7, once i create some pages and subdomains that are optimized, i should be able to use the pr from the blog to push my optimized info.

when i use "www.domain.com" i see 35000 results
