|the reason im asking is because im listed was down on this phrase and if the correct page was listed it would be page 1 probably. |
Probably... but most probably not. It all depends on the PR of the deep page in comparison to your home page and the other G factors for search engine placement.

ill give you some details, see if it will help.
Home Page PR is 5
Page that should be listed is PR 4
The "Widget Equipment" page has that phrase in the title, meta keywords, meta description, an h1 tag, links and normal text.
the term "Widget Equipment" appears one on the home page in the main nav. there is no mention in the title, meta keywords or meta description

If you wish the desirable page to be listed for "Widget Equipment", just change "Widget Equipment" to "Widget Equipments" or other equivalent phrase in your home page.

This has been happening a significant amount lately. Likely the inner page has some sort of abnormal demerit against it. How does the inner page rank when you do a search that excludes the main page:
widget equipment -UniqueWordOnMainPage

Changing the wording in the main nav menu to another phrase might not be the best thing if you want to rank for the original phrase.
Maybe an external link or two directly to the deeper page will do the trick.

It has! I would be inclined to do nothing too much (except more external links to the page, if possible) as it's most likely a Google glitch.
