Google doesn't provide a full list of backlinks ... for example, on one of my sites, G shows less than 100 BLs where yahoo shows more than 1,000 ... Hope this helps ... Cheers, MJ

I believe that Google felt its backlinks feature was being abused ... among possible abuses: webmasters would (and still do on Yahoo) search for backlinks to a competitor's sites and approach those sites for a link. Cheers, MJ

Same here we went from 125 backlinks to over 170 in Google and the over thousand earned in 7 or 8 years are only shown in Yahoo and over 2000 shown in MSN. MSN reporting the accurate number.

How do you search for backlinks on Yahoo and MS?

Hi, IMO a more accurate way of searching for backward links on Google is the query: "example.com" Normally very few instances of such does not have an actual link to the site example.com.

digicam I have had much more success checking backlinks by using this command: [uk.search.yahoo.com...] -site:www.MYDOMAIN.co.uk&meta=vc%3D&fl=0&fr=fp-tab-web-t-1&b=1 It's not Google's list, but I think that it gives a better idea of who's linking to you. Mick

| Dont agree our site is example.de Google omits the . and the results are mostly in french example de bla bla bla. Example de Universite etc. Also tried it with quotes .. although I would be happy about the 2,620,000 backlinks lol. No need for G then..

Hi Ankhenaton, Interesting, you are correct. Google sems to behave differently for .com than .de However it seems to work if you include the tripple w: [google.com...]

| That might have something to do with the fact that "com" is not a word in any language that I know of, whereas "de" is a rather common word in French. :-)

Hi, many thanks for the input, very useful, the concensus seems to be that the google toolbar link feature is not a reliable measure of backlinks and it is best to use yahoo. The command: link "domain.com" does work better on google and on yahoo the command:- link [domain.com...] works best. many thanks
