There's a must-read article in today's Financial Times on small business owners' reliance on Google and the huge impact of updates like Florida. Unfortunately the article is for subscribers only but you can read the first few paragraphs here [news.ft.com].
It is a good article from a book being published next week. Regretfully I dont have a personal copy of the article to give details of the book.
In the article the case history hammered by Florida recovers after 4 months of penalisation which is not what has happened to me under Bourbon (yet, but I hope). Somebody else should give the book reference. The author knows his stuff. A very interesting piece of work.
I just phoned my nephew. The book is just published in the UK and the US. The author is John Battelle and the long title is 'The Search: How Google and its rivals rewrote the rules of business and transformed our culture'.
Any book that knows about Webmasterworld and Googleguy should be worth a read. I checked on the Amazons that it is not too expensive.
I think we all understand this stuff and take it for granted but the man on the street is conceptually light years away. How many of you have seen that glazed look in (highly intelligent) peoples eyes when you try to explain what it is that you do.
Articles like this help to bridge the understanding gap but its still a huge gap ( thank goodness! )
