Ah, feeling stupid... :) Yes, if I was one of those sponsored listings, I certainly wouldn't be happy if searchers could just cut me out!

I think I'll put some faith in your crystal ball.

Dear Mr. Google,

I have seen that new feature, but ... no, thanx ...
I don't need this being slapped onto me as a new default.
Perhaps it may be better put as a new 'Preferences' setting like
If you can't skip thru a linear list of items to find the right ones for you by yourself, you may stop thinking here and let Google confront and surprise you with an unexpected grouping of the results ...

It worked fine during the past years: the machines did the searching in a database, and let the humans review/evaluate/rate/interpret the SERPs within their *INDIVIDUAL* background of each search.
No machine help needed for my own thinking here, really ...

Regards,
R.

I was thinking they could make it a tab or drop down menu: "Combined Search" or whatever. You could choose to opt-OUT of it as default if G really want to push it but still user a "choice".

Most of it now seems grouped by keyword topic ("meaning" -- as mentioned), but sometimes as noted it pulls from different types of search content as well (more what I referring to)...we know that showing alternate content at top (images, maps, news, etc) has been going on for a long time. But I saying, why stop there? Why not show all of em like in Korean combined SERPs?

I mean they have a 9109809809808990 ^^ types of search already waiting to be used in the prime time (without having to learn what the search format for "advanced searches" are--which I STILL forget--or open new windows to use em.)

This would provide a nice way for people who may WANT to do a "cross-section" content search. ie; by listing all the results on one page without having to open new windows.

Like I said, once you get used to it (ala Korean SERPs style), combined results are quite convenient and nice.

Yes, if I was one of those sponsored listings, I certainly wouldn't be happy if searchers could just cut me out!

Google could get away with people being able to "modulize" them (check box for which ones you don't want on your "Combined search" result page or even limited rearranging) since there isn't any price tag associated with the non-web page results (yet).

Only sponsored links would have to appear where they do now of course. (Korean portals have ALL the sections monetized).

Also, by giving people that choice... only the relative few at WebmasterWorld and the like would raise a fuss....er.... at first(imo). Lets be realistic, WebmasterWorlders are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of the curve, so to speak.

Most "normal" netizens wouldn't think much of it, (again imo). I'd think they probably might just be like "Cool. Images, news, dictionary results on one page". And that'd be the end of it (if even they realized THAT much of what was happening).

I STILL never cease to be surprised how much most "normal netizens" do NOT know what is going on with the stuff they are looking at on an internet browser or search engine. (Come on...many still dont' even realize sponsored links are paid for.)

just some food for thought.
