New Site Indexed Then Not Indexed Within One Week Used Google Sitemaps. ccity msg:707912 6:16 pm on Jul 6, 2005 (gmt 0) I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I coulnd't find anything with the search function.
I recently used Googe Sitemaps to add a new folder (several thousand pages) to our website. Within a few days, I found the folder's index page listed in Google and showing up in search results. A few days later, I found that the index is no longer listed in Google at all.
Is this a common indexing process?
Or has my site been penalized?

Is your site completely out of the Google index? If you search for your domain name, does it come up? ccity msg:707914 7:56 pm on Jul 6, 2005 (gmt 0)
No, the site is still in Google. Just the folder's index is gone. LastDuaL msg:707915 12:41 am on Jul 7, 2005 (gmt 0)
I think it's normal right now. My new site seemed to pop in and out in the first few weeks, and eventually got indexed normally. Not sure why, but Google seems to be taking longer for certain sites. webbyfro msg:707916 12:46 am on Jul 7, 2005 (gmt 0)
At least you're in the index. I can't even get in. :( Stefan msg:707917 1:25 am on Jul 7, 2005 (gmt 0)

It sounds like the regular bouncing in and out that happens whenever any pages first get listed. Give it a week or two to settle down. Your site hasn't been penalized.

I had the same problem - I submitted. The sitemap was indexed then about a week later all the pages started to rank then last week the entire domain went MIA.
I figured I was banned for adding too many pages at once
