Multiple Domains With the Same Content
Will this be a problem in Google?

I am planning to have a main travel site which is called as an example [ widget hotels domain ]

What I would like to do is to have another domain for each country and city. as an example [ widget hotels country domain ]. If people would click on it then it would take them to the hotel section of the country advertised. It would not redirect to the main site. I would like to use these for PPC advertising.

Question is, can I use same template, layout and text for both main domain and the other domains or will google punish me for this. If they do punish me for this how different do the second sites have to be to be listed under those domain names as well in google and yahoo and not get punished. Should I use a different hosting company to host the second serie of domain names?

Welcome to Webmaster World, jimberan.

If your worst problem is that you have the same content on some pages you should not have any risk of being punished. Only you should expect that only one out of several pages with the same content will perform well.

It is very difficult to say anything exact about how different two pages need to be for them both to get good positions in Google. You will have to experiment.
