Deleted pages via Google: Are they really deleted or just not shown?
I deleted quite a few and the numbers didn't update

I deleted [services.google.com:8882...] almost ALL my pages about 2 months ago to start fresh because I heard of possible penalty X, penalty Y etc. I uploaded the robots.txt with 50 pages at a time and in time they were all gone. At least from the searchers.

The new pages (slightly modified but with a new path) are all indexed, but the the numbers on site:www.domain.com are way too inflated. It says that I have over 10,000 pages, when I really have, at most, 1100.

My question is this: do the pages get deleted for good, or google just hides them from the public. I'm asking because of potential dupe penalties.

Just Guessing

Don't worry, Google can't count beyond 1,000 - it's just guessing
