Site dropped, but still getting deep crawled

 1:39 pm on Feb 17, 2005 (gmt 0)

We have a site that was doing really well in Google for a long time but was dropped completely after Florida.

The site is still regularly and comprehensively crawled by googlebot.
If googlebot seems to enjoy crawling the pages, why is that we are still getting penalized?

thanks for any feedback

Same issue... We were doing really well in Google. Our site has been getting crawled at a very rapid rate the past few weeks.

I think many of us can report a very active G-Bot in the last few days during Allegra.

Googlebot was very active just before February 5th and immediately later. For about 5 days (10th - 15th) hardly any activity. Right now, Googlebot is spidering the entire site (again for the 4th time this month).

Yep - kinda weird. But maybe the first crawls were Allegra related and this is the normal deep crawl?

Googlebot come in, takes a little nibble then
sails away into never land.
Wonder what's up with the hit and miss tactics?

In 2001 one of my sites got dropped from Google. Google kept spidering the site. But I never got any more traffic from them. Even now it has 7,330 pages from the site in its database (just checked doing a 'allinurl: "mysite.com" site:mysite.com' search). Never get even one visitor from them. Quit holding my breath a long time ago.

Don't know why they bother.
