A Year Of Google Et Al
General Statistics Over The Past 12 Months

Msg#: 28012 posted 8:23 pm on Feb 9, 2005 (gmt 0)

There have been many threads about various updates and algo changes however only by analysing actual web site performances is it possible to see a more complete picture.

I feel sure that there may be many others having success but keeping quite though through fear of wrath from those who have been struggling.

As a generalisation, since this involves more than 100+ web sites, the performance for the past 12 months has been:

1. Visitors up 80% overall.

2. Visitors to established authority widget sites up 110%. These sites are 3-10 years old.

3. Visitors to established trade brochure sites all up between 25-200%. These sites are 2-8 years old.

4. Visitors to new 7 sites performing extremely well in all SEs. These are all less than 6 months old, straight in, no sandbox etc.

5. Visitors to speciality portal up 200%. 6 years old.

It's not all been plain sailing, we've had the odd hiccough along the way, especially last August, when we saw Google visitors drop dramatically but had an unusually very high month with Yahoo! which massaged the figures dramatically otherwise we would have been well down.

We kept our nerve and in September saw a 26% jump and further increases making 60% since August.

The biggest jump apart from the August reversal?

Allegra! Already a 5% increase over January and a very, very busy month.

Anyone else track their stats in depth?
