Y! backlinks in flux?
agerhart

msg:67711

I am seeing this:

WWW backlinks: 79,000
WWW2 backlinks: 78,300

I am also seeing that Yahoo has the same, so this may not be an update.

Maybe they are switching but switched back?
Probably good to switch title in the mean time though ;)

This is really odd. I am seeing different backlinks when I use IE and Opera. Two of the other guys at the office here are not seeing the different backlinks.

On my machine, using IE - I've got nothing going on. A stroll across the room to agerhart's machine, using Opera, shows me otherwise.

Interesting to say the least.

agerhart looses a 1000 postings from his total and told to stand in the corner :)

It did this before, start then stop, then start, then stop.

Last time it did this the update was within the hour!

Watch this space.

You know, I've got some meeting coming up in the next hour, and while I wan't looking forward to it... I'm sort of happy it's happening alongside this :) Maybe when I come back, we'll have a new DB to play around in, or at the very least, agerhart's post volume will have dropped significantly :)

Finally a new "Fear and Loathing" thread. All that informed speculation gets really boring.

Hey guys. I just pulled up google to run a legitimate business related search and there was a slight delay as it came up.

That must mean one of two things:

Either the update has begun and the servers are slowing down under the workload…

Or the load you all are putting on it while you run frivolous yahoo backlink checks is slowing it down for the rest of us.

Please, don't hog the bandwidth and waste it checking for backlinks...

(hopefully a touch of sarcastic humor is OK on the board)

You'd better believe the update has started

For my most competitive keyphrase I have dropped from page 3 to page 15 on www

still page 3 on www2 and www3

Not here.

Maybe you're being routed to a different server? I get an IP 216.239.37.99.

Now, just to make sure here...

"Backlinks" means you go to google and type

link:http://www.yahoo.com

you don't go searching for your own page or anything.

Slightly offtopic. And not for the squeamish.

Has anybody considered the similarity between Google updates and menstrual cycles? They happen about the same time every month.. but when they're late, people start to worry.

Hmmm.

I've heard this several times today that the update could be seen in the far east.

I also moved the update checker here:

That may be true... agerhart is about 10 feet east of me and I still haven't seen any update action.

Google is delaying this update to get an incredible amount of free publicity!
