Google Says

 9:44 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)
While speaking today, Daniel Dulitz of Google said the update will happen within 48 hrs and that is as specific as he will get.

left to right: Daniel Dulitz (Google), Jonathan Glick (Altavista), Paul Gardi (Ask Jeeves/ Teoma), Vish Makhijani (Inktomi), Steve Gemignani (Looksmart/Wisenut), Tim Mayer (Fast/AllTheWeb). At the podium - Chris Sherman of Search Day fame. Photo by WebmasterWorld.com - all rights reserved.

Just add my thanks b4 you close the thread. Cheers Brett. :)

Is Tim Mayer (Fast/AllTheWeb) falling off his chair? ;)

 10:29 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

Now that I know it will be so soon, I will more than likely be glued to my computer! :( I hate it when I get addicted like that. BUT HECK! I am just so stoked that it's about to start! All this waiting was getting my nerves messed up.

 10:30 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

Alamo Day, tomorrow. Like they say in church, bingo.

 10:31 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

Sure you do!Think how much valium G needs...:)

 10:33 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

I hope that they are no fans of Eddie Murphy: One of his movies was "48 hours". And then there was that follow-up movie he did, called

"Another 48 hours" - Oh no, no ;-)

 10:34 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

I think we have already start dancing even without music...

 10:34 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

One question Brett: What was the exact time he uttered that? Hopefully very early in the morning today, for the sake of the nerves of some readers here. ;)

 10:36 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

judging from the conference schedule he must have said it between 3:30pm and 5:00pm in Boston (local time there), can anyone relate this to the server time shown here?

 10:36 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

So....did the update start yet? ;)

 10:38 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

Could you give us his E-Mail address?! :):):)

Now why didn't GoogleGuy just come out and say this a week ago, 'I think y'all should take a WEEK off.'

 10:39 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

How full was the moon when he said it? :)

Nice one BT

Is leaning over to take a drink of water. However, with that light artifact over his right shoulder, I think he must be gazing into the crystal ball: what does the Overture deal really mean? Will I get a pay raise? Will I have a job? Do I have to move back to California?. Notice the distance between the Fast and Altavista reps? They do that for sec reasons. lol

>When did he say that

This afternoon about 3pm est.

 10:43 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

Six months ago I never heard of a Google update, now for
for some unknown reason - perhaps subliminal influence of webmaster world - I join in the obsession over the update.

Thanks Brett! Is this the first time Google has "announced" the update?

 10:47 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

He's talking about the Freshbot Update! I'll bet actually you believed him.

They are actually running a test to see how fast a speaker's message appears in blogspace. It will be 48 hours between the time the speaker utters the news and the time the freshbot captures the rumour.

Total Paranoia

 10:48 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

Everybody -- pleeeeease be careful with your titles now - I will have very jumpy nerves, so unless it really is the update, do not use that word in a title on a new thread.

 10:48 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

BTW, how long do you think the update will last?
has to end before mar. 12, is this possible?

 10:48 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

>>This afternoon about 3pm est.

Today being Wednesday, that means stocking up on plenty of coffee to stay up all weekend and calling out for take_out food. Tofu and pizza sound good right about now. :)

Thanks for letting us know, Brett. It almost feels like getting dressed up to get ready for a party.

 10:51 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

Brett looks out for his members by finding out what they want to know. This kind of early warning is unprecedented from Google and we have Brett to thank.

Now if only Brett can find out where Saddam is hiding his weapons of mass destruction and where Usama is located.

 10:54 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

Daniel Dulitz of Google = Google Guy

Just guessing while trying to pass time...:)

Total Paranoia

 10:56 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

<<Daniel Dulitz of Google = Google Guy>>

Yeah - Daniel Dulitz = DD & Google Guy = GG - could well be.

 10:58 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

Here's to the former! Cheers! BOL to you as well.

 11:00 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

Oh God, I'm excited...

Could the unidentified person at the lower right hand corner of the photo be Mr.Brett himself?
Was the picture taken at the Brettboy Mansion?
Could this be the launch of online Brettboy Magazine?
Have the Brettboy Bunnies been retouched out of the photo?
Might I be chosen as a centerfold model?

 11:06 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

No thats not the logic Paranoia...

Google Guy is only Google Rep "communicating" with us via web. First Google Rep to make unprecedented "communication" could very well be Google Guy.

Just having fun!

 11:07 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

>unknown reason - perhaps subliminal influence of webmaster world - I join in the obsession over the update.

Yeah, I used to just look at my site's ranking every few months or so. I had no clue there even was a monthly Google update until I found this forum. Too bad there's no going back! Ignorance really was bliss.

 11:08 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

I have two suggestions to fill the next 48 hours (for those who just have to do SOMETHING
1. Get out your photoeditor and have fun with Brett's pic
or 2. Click on the paypal logo and show your support...with the traffic this site is going to see when the dance begins every bit helps!

 11:09 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

It seems like Daniel has a bit more elbow room than everyone else at that table, kinda like their market share.

 11:10 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

Yeah - Daniel Dulitz = DD & Google Guy = GG - could well be.

No is the simple answer, so dont be going round knocking on his moms front door demanding to know update information.

 11:14 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

thanks Brett

 11:18 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

At last some news from the plex :)

 11:19 pm on Mar 5, 2003 (gmt 0)

I knew you were no mind reader Shaq.

I would never ask his mom for update information.

Probably better off asking his x-wife...:)
