We all know the importance of link text on referring pages - it increases the relevance of the linked pages for those strings.

If I have a page, faq.html, can links to anchors within that page enhance relevance also?

example:

<a href="faq.html#01">important link text</a>

Does the above link increase the relevance of faq.html for the phrase 'important link text'?

Good question. I do this on a page or two but so far I have not been able to conclude any bennefit. These are PR5 pages linking to themselves with their respective important key phrases. Maybe too subtle to notice?
