Froogle problem listings - laugh? cry? just be glad?

Hello, this is my first post on Webmaster World; I must say this place is great. There's no lack of information here; there's almost too much.

I guess this is more of a rant than a request. What I just experienced blew my mind.

I looked for my company's software on Froogle (the way most searchers would look, i.e. without quotes) and not only are we on the second page for a search of our product's name - we are listed below a number of pages from a spammy download site-network with domain-names like:

and even

Now on the one hand, this is free publicity for the demo of our software, but
- this is so lame
- linkfarms are dead, long live linkfarms
- address-spamming is dead, long live address spamming

There's probably no point in submitting a complaint on this (even if it is a smart idea in business terms, which it's probably not), is there?

Hi Eric,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld

I wouldn't worry about it. In the big picture sites like that will begin to disappear when Google turns Froogle into a paid inclusion program.

Bottom line:

Spam doesn't pay unless you are selling male enhancing supplements.

In which case so does deception, betrayal, and outright theft.

Don't be swayed by the darkside.....

It isn't really Froogle spamming...it's more Google spamming that happens to appear in Froogle. Also, Froogle is still in Beta testing where this kind of thing can be expected to happen. Have faith that Froogle's quality will rise to the level that we've come to expect from Google.

male enhancing supplements?

Not only will that sort of stuff most likely become less dominant once Froogle is out of beta, as you said yourself...
this is free publicity for the demo of our software

Be glad it's your own software that's beating you in the Froogle SERPs instead of someone with your-competitors-software-is-better-than-yours.com. ;)
