Things are looking good for me :) Many sites are doing very well. Sure some are missing backlinks but in due time they will show up, and if not this time around they will show up next time around so I'm not worried.

I thought that my sites were going to do okay in this update but they did AMAZING. Thank you google. You made me a very happy and hopefully wealthy man.
4:57 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
I'm showing no links at all on www2 or www3. I've had DMOZ, Yahoo, and the google directory for many months, which are still showing on www. Ranking-wise, I'm buried at the moment. Hoping this dance ain't over yet........

Given your open bet offer of yesterday, helpmebe1, you should be falling to your knees shouting "Thanks you Jay-suss!"
4:59 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
Still no joy for me: Google is still indexing the old DNS data and as a result showing a different site with keyword matches on the site that should be there instead. I suppose I send an email to Google...again and see what happens.

I have a website, which has zero links from other websites because it is under cosntruction and I haven't added to Google with the Add form.
But it is showing a PR0. Maybe it is because I have installed the toolbar and of course I surfed quite often to the new site , while working on it?

Bobmark :) Well noone took me up on it... was thinking something was up with the holidays or sumthin.. well good thing noone did cause these results are ahhhhh... not to thrilled with them but no links are showing so I am thinking and hoping I might add it is to early to say these results are sticking

All the patience of waitng for the update was worth it - thanks Google for taking your time! And thanks to this forum for all the help.
Its Thanksgiving right?
5:18 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
I don't get it...
The number of links to my site has raised from 2 (in www) towards 14 (in www2).
However, the WWW2 en WWW3 results show only 2 pages.
In WWW i have all my 60 pages!
Should i start worrying or will all pages eventually show up when the update is over?
5:21 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
helpmebe1, I think several people here always note each update that PR gets factored in at the end (though I agree it is unusual for backlinks not to show at any point) so yeah, the serps will probably shift a fair bit just before results migrate to www.
5:22 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
my PR just went up a notch back to its original state..ok ladys and gentlemen buckle up..this is called the update... its gonna be a bumpy ride for a bit
(still all backlinks are missing though)
5:23 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
I was posting as you were..yeah..seems like its a bumpy ride.. we will all see in a few days or however long this update takes, right?
5:28 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
Given the somewhat unusual www, www2 www3 behaviour in the last week I got a feeling we're gonna see a quick migration like last month. Good luck, helpmebe1

mahlon and Total Paranoia, when you reported spam, did you mention webmasterworld? Glad to hear that the spammy site you saw before is gone now, mahlon.
5:35 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
And regarding things like backlinks and PageRank, I would wait until the index settles down more before you draw any conclusions. Things can be in a pretty big state of flux as we change our index over.
5:35 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
I wouldn't pop any champagne just yet. I've spent all afternoon researching various sites and trust me - this index has a looooong way to go yet.
5:37 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
okay... no worries about backlinks and pagerank
but what about pages that don't show up anymore in www2?
5:47 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
Bobmark, Thanks..best of luck to you to.. its come straight from GG mouth.. as always..things will change.. and then you will see a whole bunch of pissed off posts..haha... Good luck! This is the update of all updates since it will take us through to Dec 1 more or less...

So I was up 'til 2 o'clock this morning (Pacific time), no update, went to bed. Then all heck breaks loose. Typical, eh? Sneaky Google.
I show a lot of improvement across a lot of websites, mostly due to a greater volume of inbound links. :) Nice!
One site in particular is fun to watch. It's now #10, up from #50, for its main kw phrase, out of over 400K results, and it absolutely dominates on 13 somewhat less important other phrases.
So far, I have nothing to gripe about. :)

About your comments regarding backlinks and being patient for the update to settle. Would this include lifted penalties?
At the first of the month you were gracious enough to look at our site and others which were long penalized with no backlinks showing (can't remember the thread title). In our case, you indicated the penalty would be lifted and asked us to pledge to never again use a link club as we had for a short time long ago.
In looking at the update on www2 & www3, it looks to still be in place as we show no backlinks, although in reality we have hundreds including DMOZ, Yahoo, and other majors.
Your help and insight is greatly appreciated.

Lost ranking on all sites which included major two key words
and phrases. 2 - 3 keyword groups last month done very well but have vanished this month.
check sites and they have no penalties attached.
Not to sure what happened.
6:17 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
Shoestring it normally takes two updates for the penalty to go, think of it as being more related to the big crawl than to indexing.
6:18 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
GoogleGuy.. No. I didn't mention webmasterworld when I reported the spam.. but I will be now.. Thanks.. ;-)
6:21 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
If I can make a general comment...
last update I got real upset over www3 & 2 results and most did end up in www. However, the result was not the meltdown I anticipated as I picked up on unanticipated keywords and on sub-pages so overall didn't really drop and maybe even improved a bit or at least held steady.
At the time, like everyone else, I had little patience with those who said "wait for a week or 2 to see the effect" but they were right.
My point, if I have one, is save yourself some mental wear and tear and don't get suicidal over early results.
6:23 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
Well said Bobmark... and dont get to happy I might add either... recent times I remember spammers getting happy in the beginning of the dance and totally pissed off by the end
6:29 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
Noticing sweeping changes in backlink calculations on my sites - some sites going way higher, others chipped down to a skeleton. Affects internal link numbers on some sites.
Also bested for #1 by a keyword stuffer for several terms - same color/bckgrnd-text.
Can anyone tell me how view new PR changes between WWW and WWW2 or 3? Have Google toolbar, but it only shows WWW.
Thanks in advance.
6:37 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
My site showing same link results on www that were on www2 and www3. Looks like they migrated it over from my view.
6:38 pm on Oct 31, 2002 (gmt 0)
I too am missing several backlinks, including one from Yahoo which is definitely still there.
This seems to be having a significant effect on my rankings.

see the pr in www3 thread, xbase
