Question on Updates

Just wondering as I cant find the answer in the faqs...I have a page that was running #3 for my keywords..until this morning when its now #13..where it was 2 months ago. The cached copy has reverted to the copy I had back then as well, and I have checked www2 and 3 as well and they show the same?
Is this an indication of where I will end up after the update or is there a problem at Google today?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Marval!

I think what you are describing is the 'Everflux' effect that many mistake as being the 'update'.

So for what it's worth, I recommend doing a site search for 'Everflux'. There is some great reading on those posts and threads.

Again, Welcome:>)

Update has not yet begun, and all heck is gonna break loose in WebmasterWorld when it does start. Things will change. Bolt down your furniture and stock up on tranquilizers.... "It's gonna be a bumpy night."

your page reverted to an older cached copy.

The update should contain the lastest content google has spidered. If there are no major surprises you should get nearly your same spot back.

But, if i knew what was going to happen i would not be waiting and checking 6 times aday. Maybe google is getting ready and showing an older version was just a pre update condition, maybe it was nothing. Maybe google has a surprise and that is why they have not already updated, maybe not.

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the great leads....and answers most of my initial questions, of course the more I read the more questions I think of :)

The only other unusual thing I noted in this new listing was that the text description on the search results seem to have been pulled from within a form that I have on the page. I had been told in the past that Google wouldnt go inside the form tags, but looking around I see that it did on the indexing of my page.

When I checked this a week ago the cached copy didnt even highlight the search term inside that form box but now its got the contents as the search results - weird

Thanks all again :)

Yeah..that mysterious little 'snippet'..the elusive snippet is something is tough to recognize what is causing it.

again, welcome, and enjoy!

and your "enjoyment" is likely to wane as time goes on if you are sucked into the obsessive/compulsive world of Googlemania. You will neglect your friends, family, pets and flora to check webmasterworld with one question in your fevered brain: HAS THE UPDATE STARTED YET?
(which is, of course, why I am here instead of doing somthing constructive)
Welcome

Well...been going on 38 hours here and the site is still dropped out of most keywords and the main listing is still dropped 10 points and has the very old cache copy...weird...didnt know the Flux lasted this long...but at least the PR is still there :)
