I'm getting different link counts for WebmasterWorld on all three servers....

Note to mods: Please, delete if I'm wrong, I hate it when people cry wolf but I was always told the link counts were the way to tell....

Thanks. And, the new sister site apparently is doing well from the PR it must have picked up from my link to it on the main site (so far, because it is so new I haven't asked others to link to the new site yet.)

>This is so nerve racking... I wish Google would update every week and not monthly...

Or at least every 2 weeks. Well, I guess we can at least dream, right? ;)

>what is different in this update

My first impression is that PageRank seems to be less important. We went from PR5 to PR7 on some pages but rankings only increased slightly.

It seems that there are more dynamic URLs in the index. I can see several inbound links for our sites with "?" in the URL that haven't been indexed before.

The toolbar seems no longer to request XML files. (At least they are no longer cached by IE.) I looks like PageRank values are now transmitted to the toolbar in a simple text file which has only few other information in it.

Backward links gone from 114 to 286, a few good PR6 links now in, hopefully our PR5 will now go up. Also managed to get (BBCi) reccommended.

Yes, my new site is in but not showing for any keywords at all....

Is this normal? The optimization is good, incoming pr6 links...why isn't it showing?

Nick

The same thing has happened to 2 of my new sites Nick. I don`t understand it.

Then I don't think we have much to worry about... My guess is that we don't have any PR on our pages untill they reach WWW

If both our brand new sites are doing the same then I think we can safely assume that it isn't an isolated mistake on our parts and that in a few days we'll be smiling ;)

It's early, but I'm going to concur with the page rank being less important theory. I'm showing on www2 and 3 in the top 20 (a few in the top 10) on some very important terms where last month I was coming in somewhere between 100 and 200. (Haven't checked my own PR yet as it's too early to really see anything, really - but my inbound links only went up by 10 - about 20% - I doubt that's enough to pop me up in PR).

Not convinced. Yeah, certainly seeing a few changes but nothing that convinces me its the full update. I had a server go down for a few days back in early July and sites were chucked July update as expected. Server has been running perfectly since and some of the sites on it are linked to from some big guns in my market that are getting crawled by GGB practically every day. So you would expect those sites to have come back this update... not even a dicky bird.

Apart from that some others that I watch have had title changes back in July and I've not seen any change there either.

Perhaps this is a prelude to the storm.. Well I hope so anyhow.

Damn I hate when it starts like this, I cant find my site on any pages on google www2, www3, but that was also the case for 2 updates ago and I was still indexed later, but still Im a little scared anyway, like maybe Im not gonna get indexed at all, but I have good faith in Google.

all the best for all

Hi everyone.

Not a happy update for me, here'e the coup:

  • Brand new website - 10 or so pr6 incomings
  • Not showing for even very specific phrases on www2/3
  • The pages are there but I have to enter whole sentences to find them
  • When I do find them I get 2 listings mysite.com/index.php and mysite.com/

Is that last point a duplicate content penalization because my links are inconsistent?

Cheers

I would chill a little while until the thing is live on WWW.

When I do find them I get 2 listings mysite.com/index.php and mysite.com/

Is that last point a duplicate content penalization because my links are inconsistent?

No - this isn't a duplicate and wouldn't class as a penalization. Had it been mysite.com and mysitemirror.com then fair enough. But Google always displays the front of a site it's indexed ie. mysite.com and then sometimes chooses a path/page to display as well such as mysite.com/privacypolicy.html etc right below it.

luma luma luma - stop repeating that ;) It was a misnomer, a happenstance, a coincidence, concurrence of events, accidental, or a temporal occurrence. (insert traditional phase of the moon qualifiers here)

It has not been an accurate predicter of updates ;)

That said, the full moon is officially tomorrow night.

Isent this a little to early for a update or do they go for the last weekend every month now, it sure looks like it, but no doubt this is the real thing.

Woohoo...link pop up by 50%...I could almost pop myself ;)

Got that recurring problem again though. Some of my pages are with www. and somewithout hence on the SERP's they are treated as entirely different sites.

I still blame a DMOZ listing for it. Nonetheless....update update :)

Seems like a good update for my site. We've gone from 78 backward links to 344 and were already on a pr5. Hopefully when google stops dancing we will at least move up to a pr6.

I'm feeling the effects of 'update rush' for the first time - the site I work on now has 4 times the incoming links it had before coming up in google (alright I only had 1 before, but its a start!)

On one 3 word search where we were coming 10th out of 26000 we've moved up to 6th, so I'm guessing a PR increase is on the cards.

Just unfortunate I didn't get the new version of the site up in time for this month's update, just went up day before yesterday. Now I have to bite my nails for another month before I see what it will mean for us.

Special thanks go to everyone here who has given me help.

I seem to be seeing a bit MORE spam in some listings. I'm seeing more ugly domain spam - things like www.keyword1-keyword2.com/keyword1-keyword2/keyword2.htm.

Also, some keyword subdomains, like keyword.domain.com/keyword/keyword.htm.

In one case, where I searched for a brand of product, the manufacturer's own site was pushed down in the listings by a bunch of doorway-looking sites. One of these obvious doorway sites has PR7 - that will be interesting to examine in more detail.
