And cause for much indigestion. Pass the Pepto Bismol. ;)

The updated version of the Google directory seems to be showing up for some. I'm getting referrals from there, but when I check the category I see the old version and the page isn't there yet.
But I thought the directory was updated independently from the rest of Google...

Hello Fitch,

and maybe for some other members and guests of WebmasterWorld forums: There is a nice site at that gives you the 3 Google servers in one window. Very nice to look at, and easy to compare.

(I hope this is allowed. I have no relation with this site, but thought it is a handy tool for many Google unpatient SEO's).

[edit reason] no tool url drops please - see charter [/edit]

 6:55 pm on Jun 27, 2002 (gmt 0)

Good find! That is very cool. Thanks.

 6:59 pm on Jun 27, 2002 (gmt 0)

I'm not sure what to make of the update. For my major keyphrase, WWW is showing what it did last month--i.e., mostly irrelevant results in the top 10--but my site shows up on page 2 with a "fresh" date and an up-to-date cached image.

WWW2 and WWW3 show much more relevant results, but my site listing doesn't have a "fresh" date and the cached image is old.

For what it's worth, this is similar to what happened with last month's update. WWW2 and WWW3 offered higher-quality results during the "dance" than WWW did when the May update was complete.

 7:08 pm on Jun 27, 2002 (gmt 0)

Thank you! I'll check it out.

 7:11 pm on Jun 27, 2002 (gmt 0)

Wow. That is a neat tool. Thanks pvdm!

 7:17 pm on Jun 27, 2002 (gmt 0)

I am new to this board, but I am not new to toying with google.. ;) So let me get this straight, WWW *will* = WWW2 in the coming days, correct?

Now if so, are we talking about a card shuffle between www and www2, or will WWW become a dito copy of WWW2?

 7:19 pm on Jun 27, 2002 (gmt 0)

pvdm, thanks, but we've been url dropped and spammed to death on the google tools. There are no less than 30 "3x3" google check sites out there now (and all of them have wanted to promote here). So, we can't play favorites...thanks.

You got it rsomers. Most of us are seeing that transition now.

 7:21 pm on Jun 27, 2002 (gmt 0)

shuffle or copy though?

 7:22 pm on Jun 27, 2002 (gmt 0)

You're welcome Fitch!

Sorry Brett, won't do it again. What should I do if I would like to share a good info?

 7:44 pm on Jun 27, 2002 (gmt 0)

Rsomers, I'm still seeing changes in www2 & 3. I don't think things are quite locked in yet - even for 2 & 3. Welcome, by the way!

 11:04 pm on Jun 27, 2002 (gmt 0)

everything's dropped back to the old index for me now ... a new site, 592 pages has been in and out of www since sunday night ... can't wait for the update to complete ......

 11:50 pm on Jun 27, 2002 (gmt 0)

Ahhh.... I hate this.

Is it "etched in stone" that www2 and www3 become www eventually? and when?

Ahhhh... just make it stop.

 12:13 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

Same here Crazy Fool. In, now out.

brotherhood of LAN

 12:22 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

heh, may as well chip in.....

i see the new results on www

 12:25 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

Is it "etched in stone" that www2 and www3 become www eventually?

Come on, you know better than that! Nothing in seo is etched in stone. :)

It is, though, the way it's been working for some time -- so it's probably safe to assume it's happening again. Take "eventually" as "four to seven days" from the beginning of the update, and yeah, you'd be starting to get impatient.

Until Google updates it's directory with DMOZ data - nothing will be stable and everything can change :)

 1:46 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

i was seeing the new results on opera, via www., before i was seeing the results on IE on www. may even be still happening now. though the funny things is that one of my US customers, was seeing the www. IE, which i could only see on opera upto 00.30 hours today., just checked IE now, and the results are in line.

I think the update is complete.

 1:52 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

Caine, I disagree. I'm still seeing differences...although fluctuating here in North Dakota.

 2:02 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

Scott, maybe it is still,

in my last post, you'll note the differences i was seeing between Opera and IE concerning the www. index. Nothings a certainty except death and taxes !

one of my sites went from zero pr to 5 and just gained #1 for some of the most competitive kw phrases, in its industry. If only done this 1st version in the last 6 weeks. I'm very happy, i'm going to go and get more money and explore there ROI with them.

funny thing is there are no backward links or similar sites.

 2:31 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

If www2 and www3 were www right now, I would be master of my universe.

Unfortunately, they are not. Should I keep holding my breath; holding down the shift key and clicking refresh; and then run back here every 30 seconds...

Does what I see in www2 and www3 right now MEAN anything?

 2:40 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

In my experience, what you see on www2 and www3 is what you will eventually see on www. However, I don't know whether that's a universal opinion.

 3:28 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

the results do revolve or dance around, but as the dance slows the results, become static, and i can see www2 and www3 switching to one frequently, so i think thats the static index for the next 25 days or so !

Scott, yeah you're right they are still switching around on IE, but not Opera which i am finding confusing, and no body is giving me a bone on my post.

 3:53 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

Am now starting to see sporadic new toolbar PR figures on www. :)

 4:02 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

my site is being reindexed daily, and it changes daily.www3 and 3 are showing the daily changes while www is now showing results from 2 months ago!

 4:09 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

I'm starting to think the wisest thing to do is go on vacation for a week (without a computer) whenever the google dance starts...

 4:15 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

I'm convinced liquor sales spike during the Googledance. Which reminds me, I'm outta white zin.

 4:26 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

www returns 167 references to "google dance" ... www3 has 313

 4:27 am on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

Not an eventful month, but I'm seeing the new on www after a few shifts and it's mostly "pleasant."

One dropped a few places which isn't thrilling because a few down can make a big difference and it'll get nothing for a while. Another moved ahead of the 2 main competitors - it's a completely worthless search term that no one ever looks for, I just did it to try to aggravate them, which it will. :)

 7:05 pm on Jun 28, 2002 (gmt 0)

So is the dance done?

I don't like my results right now... so I hope it's not done.... ;)
