Newb question, but how do you check the pagerank of a site on a particular datacenter such as 66.102.11.99? Thanks, Jeremy

Why would the site: command still show pages but the link: command show nothing? Seems weird. It's like that on about 5 websites. They all show no backlinks at those two data centers only. I imagine it would be some sort of penalty, but I'm not sure what it would be for.

| They've been appearing on Google.co.uk for the last half hour now, pretty much 100% of the time. We've had episodes recently, though, of new backlinks results appearing and then being sucked back into the Googleplex a couple of days later never to reappear. The look real to me on all of my sites - pretty much what I'd hope for in respect of the work I've done on some (and not on other) sites of mine. DerekH

Based on the fact that the last two toolbar updates took place in July and October, January would fit the continued trend of a quarterly toolbar update.

Just to put in my 2 cents on this thread (I never participate in these). On a site in which PR dropped one point pretty much accross the board on 66.102.11.104 the site is ranking higher than it has in 2 years for the 20-30 terms I searched for - sometimes moving up 10-30 slots on that datacenter even though the number of results have increased dramatically. I'll be happy to trade the drop in PR for the increased traffic ;)

| For windows, add this line to your hosts file: 66.102.11.99 toolbarqueries.google.com The hosts file should be in Windows>System32>Drivers>Etc for XP. Or do a search of your system.

Using 66.102.11.99, Toolbar PR is now showing for multiple internal pages which were created between 11-20 and 12-20. I'm seeing neither a bump nor a drop on any of our pages which already showed Toolbar PR.

One theme I am seeing it Google is PR zeroing pages that are often of little value. For example, dislaimer pages and TOS pages are not ranking. Also, I'm of the opinion that having too many outbound links on a page may be causing a decrease in PageRank. These are my early observations.

> Where [HOSTS file] is and how can i change > i have windows 98 Go to your windows folder on your hard drive Locate the file named Hosts (no extension, just Hosts) Using Notepad or some other plain text editor, open the Hosts file add this line to it: 66.102.11.99 toolbarqueries.google.com Save the host file as All Files back to your Windows folder (What works for me is to save the file name as "Hosts" (using the quote marks) Once you save the file, your G Toolbar will only use that particular datacenter. Once you're done, reopen hosts file, slap a # at the front of that line, or just delete that line and save the file again, the same as you did before
