|PR5, 12 backlinks SERPs page 12...|
Whats going on?

First post here in a while... I've got a site that I put up to promote a specific product we sell. A few months ago we noticed the PR had gone up to 5, which is more than our main site and aall other sites we have. The only problem being that we are on page 12 on the SERPS!
Being so busy, I have only really this week had a chance to look into this. First thing I did was to have a look at the pages above us in the SERPS. Not a great deal to tell, most of the sites were of poor quality and not much relevance. I then looked at the backlinks and found that there were only 12, and the best of which only had a PR of 3-4. So I can't understand why I have a PR5. The site is very relevant for its keywords... In fact its probably the most relevant site for its key/search words and phrases around.
Our main site also has this product featured on it, with a PR of 4, and thats even on Page 6... Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.

Well it was nice to wait 2 days for my post to be put up, thanks.
Again, any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated!

IMHO your problem is the quality of the backlinks. Get some major directory, industry portal, and home page BL's if you can get them.

Nowadays Google shows just a few backlinks, and not necessarily the most relevant ones.
In addition, PR is just one of several factors for a good performance in the SERPS. Consider keyword density, title, description tag, internal linking, etc.,etc.

Patoruzu, the description tag and the other meta tags died out a long time ago.
The backlinks you have how relevant are they to your site and are they on a links page, article page, home page or something else?

Don't put too much faith in the backlinks that google shows you. There is speculation that the backlink command provides some misinformation in the number of links just to keep us from gaming them.

Ok, I checked my backlinks on alexa and found that I'm getting the PR5 from...
The Google directory! Yes, my site is listed on a PR6 page in the google directory. Interesting that Google chose not to list its own directory as a backlink!

I agree that the Google bar backlink list isn't very informative anymore. Is there a place where we can get accurate backlinks to a specific page? Alexia and others just seem to give backlinks to the full domain and not the individual page.
