display date on page - is this considered bad?

Hi all,

I have been displaying the date/time on the footer of my site for about 4 years now (not for seo reasons, but for informational reasons). I have recently seen comments about unnecessary pinging the bots type changes should be avoided.

Is this considered bad practice now a days? Or are the bots able to effectively ignore this in their calculations.

Thanks.

Lots of sites include date and time, especially those with news or fast changing information.

Date and time can be useful to visitors, and it also helps when looking at a cached page to see the date (I looked at a page the other day that said "special offer today only" and the date above was 2 days ago) thus avoiding a customer issue had I tried to order the "special offer" and then had the company later tell me it had already finished.
